As you can see this is a stacked list full of releases coming within the next year, and with all these games there is sure to be something for everyone. However, I want to highlight a few of my personal favorites, specifically Moth Kubit, Morsels, and Pico Park 2.

August 2024 Nintendo Indie World Showcase: Personal Picks

Of all the games shown today my personal favorite is Moth Kubit. It helps that I absolutely love insects and consider myself a sort of amateur entomologist, but even despite that Moth Kubit looks to be something special. In Moth Kubit you play as an insect who recently gets promoted but finds themselves wrapped in a weird corporate conspiracy. The game is an RPG that features power ups, secrets, quests, multiple endings where the choices you make matter, and finally an interesting verbal dialogue combat system. This is basically a winning combination for me!

In Morsels, you play as a mouse fighting against evil cats by using powerful cards that turn you into creatures. What particularly piqued my interest about this game is its surreal art style, that seems like it changes and shifts as you get to certain points in the game. With roguelikes, you always have this feeling of ‘just one more run’ with roguelikes, and Morsels looks like it is poised to deliver.

Lastly Pico Park 2 is a coop puzzle platformer that can be played with up to eight people either locally or online. I love couch coop games and am always on the lookout for more to play with my wife, and Pico Park 2 looks right up our alley. It seems like a fun mix between Unravel and Snipperclips, designed to challenge both your skills and friendships. Featuring over 60 levels of platforming, shmup, minigame fun, this is a game I can’t wait to dig into.
