As you can see this is a staggering amount of games coming out within the next year, and with all these games there is sure to be something for everyone. However, I want to highlight a few of my personal favorites, Star Overdrive, surprisingly Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, and most DEFINITELY the Capcom Fighting Collection 2.
August 2024 Nintendo Partner Showcase: Personal Picks
Firstly, let’s start out with my personal heavy hitter: Capcom Fighting Collection 2. It may not seem fair because this game is really eight games in one, but there is one standout title for me in this collection and that game is Capcom vs SNK 2. For those who don’t know, CvS2 is a cross over fighter between Capcom and SNK featuring a wide roster of characters across many games from their respective companies. It’s the groove system that sells it for me, because each of the six different grooves defines how you play your characters, resulting in an insane variety of playstyle. I’m looking forward to enjoying this one with rollback netcode and online lobbies.
Next is Star Overdrive, a sci-fi action RPG that looks like a mix between Jet Set Radio and Hi-Fi Rush. In this game you play as a person trying to reunite with their lost love by searching through a stunning desert planet while riding your hoverboard. As you explore and gather resources, you can level up skills, customize your hoverboard, and increase your strength.
Finally, there is Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, which looks like a brand new take on the established Rune Factory formula. When the trailer flashed the game name, I had to do a double take because it was not like anything I was expecting from the Rune Factory series. In this entry you play as an Earth Dancer, who can use their powers to restore nature back to the world. Of course there is still the heavy farming influence that makes the series so popular, but this new world seems to have a much larger scale than previous entries.
Final Thoughts
This Partner Showcase was overall hit or miss for me, though the big standout in my opinion is the Capcom Fighting Collection 2. I am prepared to spend a massive amount of hours in that game. However there is still so much variety within these games that generally there will be something for everyone. If you missed the direct and want to watch it, you can check it out below:
