Black Loong – Black Myth: Wukong

Black Loong

Black Loong is a secret boss in Chapter 2 of Black Myth: Wukong. In order to access this boss, you need to collect the secret item Loong Scales. You can find this item in a hidden area in the arena where you fought First Prince of Flowing Sands. This boss can appear intimidating at first, but after reading this post you’ll have a few tricks at your disposal that will push you towards victory.

The very first thing to note is that a lot of his moves are slow. Not only that, but they are easily avoidable if you stay behind him. On my victory attempt, I was able to avoid a lot of damage by just sticking to his tail. You’ll be able to get full combos off, and dodge with plenty of time to spare. There are only two real moves you need to worry about.

You can watch my full attempt here:

Drum Solo

The first move is his drum solo move. Black Loong will start hammering his maces into the ground. And when he does, a large ring will emanate outward causing damage if you get hit. The rings are spaced out awkwardly, and can sometimes stun lock you. Now, if you’re really good it is probably possible to avoid all those hits. I am not that good, and messed up quite a bit. Luckily there is a MUCH simpler method to avoid damage.

Black Loong slams his maces into the ground to make shockwaves.
Get ready for the drum solo.

When Black Loong is preparing to do this attack, he will stand still and channel electricity. Do not bother damaging him at this time. Instead take a moment to locate a rock platform, and simply stand on it. The electric shock waves will pass underneath you harmlessly. You can use this time to take a breather and heal up. This attack ends when he slams both of his maces to the ground, and causes a large explosion around him. Once that’s over, you are safe to move in and do some damage. Be careful though, as his maces will have a brief electric buff. Getting hit while they are powered up causes massive damage.

At the start of the fight there are about four or five of these safe platforms. Make sure you note their locations and be ready to move when he starts his drum solo. However, Black Loong is able to break the platforms with some of his moves. Take care to keep him from breaking all of them. Make sure you keep him in one area for most of the fight. Do not let him move around the arena!

Sandstorm

The other move to watch for is his sandstorm attack. Black Loong will spin his maces around, conjuring a massive storm that slows you down. If you completed the secret are for this chapter, congratulations! The reward at the end of the secret area is a vessel that makes this move trivial. Equip Wind Tamer for this fight, and then activate it when Black Loong is surrounded by his tornado. You will dispel the tornado and stagger Black Loong in the process, allowing you to get a full combo on him.

Black Loong will twirl his maces to conjure a storm.
When he twirls his hammers, get ready with Wind Tamer.

The strategy that worked for me was to run in and start the fight off with Immobilize to get a full combo off. As soon as Immobilize broke, I used the spirit transformation Wandering Wight to stagger Black Loong backwards. Immediately afterwards I used the Red Tides transformation to keep up the pressure. This opening salvo does nearly a third of Black Loong’s health in damage. Once the Red Tide transformation ends, Black Loong always went into his drum circle shockwaves. At that point, hop up on a platform, wait out the attack and apply buffs as it ends.

After that it was a simple matter of sticking to his back and watching out for his sandstorm. Pretty soon he did the second drum solo and then victory was earned!

Another well earned victory.
