Death Must Die: What Does Luck Do?
There are a plethora of stats in Death Must Die. From standard stats like attack damage and crit chance, to more specialize stats like pull area and status duration. With all these stats there’s no limit to how you can customize your character. But what about the Luck stat?
What exactly does it do? The in-game description says it’s a multiplier for chance based blessings, items, and objects. But even that is not immediately clear. This article aims to help you better understand the luck stat in Death Must Die.
Luck Explained
As mentioned, luck directly impacts all your blessings and items that have any chance based multiplier. Your attacks have a chance to trigger a chain lightning? Increase your luck and that chance becomes more frequent. Have a weapon that can inflict a status effect on an enemy? Having more luck will allow you to inflict the effect more often.
Here is a small example of the impact on luck on a piece of equipment that has a chance to inflict multiple status effects.
The Command of the Five Elements gloves for Skadi are popular because of the sheer amount of statuses they inflict. Naturally, you want to proc these status effects as often as possible. Take a note of their percentages to inflict with no luck.
This next image shows the increase in proc percentage with just a bit of extra luck.
As you can see, the chance to inflict these statuses increased by quite a bit. They each went up by roughly 40% per status effect. The way that luck impacted Command of the Five Elements, is the way that it impacts every blessing, item, or object that has a chance of some effect to occur.
Now, just because luck can effect multiple things, doesn’t mean that it effects everything the same way. While it scaled the chance of status infliction for Command of the Five elements at 1:1 ratio, a blessing may only get 50% of your luck value.
This is due to the scaling factor of said blessing, item, or object.
Scaling Factor
Every talent, item, and blessing has a scaling factor. This scaling factor determines how effective a stat bonus applies to it. Let’s use Ninh’s blessing Crushing Attack for example.
Crushing Attack has a chance to stun enemies when you attack them. At base, you have a 5% chance to stun an enemy. However, the ability has a hidden scaling factor of 0.2. Which means that 20% of your luck value will go towards increasing that 5% stun chance.
Even still, there are more multipliers that go into calculating the final stat number. All of those multipliers are impacted by the scaling factor. For more information on scaling factor and calculations, take a look at the stat mechanics section in the Death Must Die wiki.
Final Thoughts
Luck is likely the most complicated stat in Death Must Die. Not only is it difficult to explain, but also the way it affects calculations is tricky. At its core, just know that it makes your chance based abilities happen more often.
And this doesn’t just apply to status effects, this applies to anything with a chance based multiplier. Whether it’s chances for a second attack to happen, or chances to stun enemies. However, two things that luck does not effect are crit chance and the chance for rare item drops.
Even knowing that it is still important to remember that each ability scales differently with luck. If you ever have questions about that scaling factor, you can always refer to the ability in the Death Must Die wiki.
