Yellow Wind Sage – Black Myth: Wukong

Yellow Wind Sage

The Yellow Wind Sage is the end chapter boss of Chapter 2 in Black Myth: Wukong. This boss summons the sands of the desert to aid him, and can cast mirages of himself to trick The Destined One. This is arguably the most challenging encounter so far, with players having to navigate through the boss’s tricks. Completing the secret area in Chapter 2 prior to this fight will make you better prepared. You will receive a reward which makes certain aspects of this battle trivial. Be warned though, it also makes the fight a bit more emotionally depressing.

You can watch my successful attempt here:

The Sage of the Desert

The Yellow Wind Sage has a barrage of fast hitting abilities, that make it tough to dodge around him. One of the most important things you can learn, is backing off and knowing when to side dodge. He has a lot of moves that end in a vertical swing, so side dodging those are critical. If you want to be risky, you can dodge forward instead. This puts you in excellent position to follow up with combos. However there are three moves that are major threats that you need to watch out for.

Mirage

The first move is when he makes a mirage of himself. This attack starts with the Yellow Wind Sage stepping backwards and disappearing into a pile of sand. A mirage version of himself then dashes out at you randomly with a wide assortment of moves. Since there are so many different attacks, it can be overwhelming. The best thing to note is that you have a wide window to dodge each one. It may feel counterintuitive, but the best thing to do is wait until he gets close and then dodge. Do not spam the dodge in a panic.

You have ample time to dodge, just be patient.

Summon Scarab

The second ability to watch for is the Summon Scarab ability. Yellow Wind Sage will raise his head to the skies and roar. Shortly afterwards, a massive scarab beetle corpse will rise from the sands and hover menacingly in the air. Players who completed the secret area, will recognize this beetle as Fuban. This attack is probably his most damaging attack, but luckily it’s also his most avoidable. I know it looks terrifying, but you need to hold your ground and wait before your dodge. Make it a bit easier by circling to the right, and then dodge right before the scarab hits you. The beetle spins a bit in the air, so strafing to the right can buy you a little more time.

Sandstorm

The final ability that may cause problems is his Summon Sandstorm ability. Yellow Wind Sage will circle his staff in the air, causing a massive sandstorm to appear. The storm will last for a long time, causing you to split your attention with another obstacle. But, if you completed the Chapter 2 secret area as I mentioned before, you can completely negate this move. The reward for beating the secret area is the Wind Tamer vessel. The description for the vessel mentions that it is effective against specific enemies. Wouldn’t you know it? Yellow Wind Sage is one such enemy. Whenever the boss is about to summon the sandstorm, use the Wind Tamer. This will stop the summoning and stun the boss, allowing you get to multiple combos on him.

We all know how the song goes…

Another effective fight to use the Wind Tamer is the fight against Black Loong.

Yellow Wind Sage: Final Tips

Thankfully his most impactful moves are all easy to dodge or avoid completely. If you do not have the Wind Tamer vessel, you will need to make certain to keep an extra eye on the sandstorm. Until it is dispelled, you cannot approach it in any way. If you do you will be launched in the air for big damage, and knocked prone for a few seconds. If you can keep up the pressure and not panic when these big moves are coming out, that sweet victory screen will be yours.
